3 Images
Back to the 3 new images. They all appear to be outside the UK
Pic 1 - The phone number is definitely not UK
Pic 2 - Lebanese President and a venue AUB Green Oval (American University of Beirut)
Pic 3 - Power sockets are not UK
Anyone else any input on this.
I don't know why everyone has gone of tangent sticking up posters of the Box, is it because they don't know what else they should be doing?

i dont know, spearman said not all messages are sent elctronically, he told us to find the common elemnt, put 2 and 2 together and i'm not quite sure if we got 4, posters would be too obvious, if it was posters he'd be able to choose ANY 3 posters

See my previous posts on these images; one of the pictures is in Beirut, Lebanon (the SalaMusic one) and another is in Herzliya, Israel (the 'purple Octopus' logo for the 8hands company www.8hands.com). You are thinking along the same lines as me!

Re: Poster task - send your message to the world
I have absolutely NO idea! Like I've read what you guys have said in other threads.. it seems a bit too obvious. But then if it's wrong we can always try again with something else.
Gamma and perception in photography
Photography holds some interesting data here. The box image (made of arrows) on the "We know" flyer we are using is a type of illusion, not an optical illusion but a "visual illusion" as the result of us seeing a box is due to an incorrect interpretation by the brain rather than the result of an optical distortion. There is no box, our brain is just making one; Don't trust what we see or take it at face value. "Step outside the box"?
Gamma in photograpy is used to quantify contrast: the slope of an input–output curve in log–log space.
"Gamma values less than 1 are typical of negative film, and values greater than 1 are typical of slide (reversal) film".
Notice the words negative and reversal. Mirrored, as in a captured image. Looking in the mirror of a captured image of yourself? We are stuck or caught up by the way we think or naturally see things as humans.
The lens of a camera works in stages where the image is flipped effecting the way we see it (1/U + 1/V = 1/F, U is the object distance or how close or far away the light is coming from, V is the image distance or distance from the lens to the point at which the light is focussed and F is the focal length), technology influencing perception. Could "the box", metaphorical or otherwise contain a captured image or data, possibly like the black box in a plane, which would relate to the military element mentioned on the solos site: http://www.soloscorporation.com ?
"At SOLOS we are creating next generation mind and body technology in a controlled military environment. Combined with a highly enhanced understanding of how the human mind integrates with software and hardware, we engage individuals in high level strategy, negotiation and planning with a sound technical back up."
The relationship between the mind and technology, something we are definitely caught up in here. An experiment?

Re: Poster task - send your message to the world
...and how do we know he didn't choose any three images of something being displayed publicly? The bottom line is that we don't. We know he wants to send a message to the word, we know what the message is. Displaying the message publicly is currently the best fit we have.coocumb3r wrote:posters would be too obvious, if it was posters he'd be able to choose ANY 3 posters

And, Codifier, you calling us sheep? Is that as sarky as the whole 20 mins it took you to find the Spearman Flickr site, heehee?
@JayKay - No no no! I live in New Zealand. The majority of our exports are agricultural and most of us have a complex about being associated with sheep. So, I thought to myself, how better to get the word out in a uniquely NZ way?
The ironic part is that there are no sheep in the suburbs where I am - and even if I found a sheep, I'm damn sure it would run away from me before I got a chance to stick a poster to its wooly side!
Finding the Flickr Spearman site was just a lucky guess on my part.

@thunderstar - We were given a hint on Twitter by Spearman that "not all messages should be sent electronically", and the placing of these posters in public locations is very consistent with some of the recurring themes I've been noticing in tweets from Phillis, DB, and certain parts of The Events.
Apart from that, the current Team Lox challenge (creative/dancing videos) is a crossover from the Internets to the real world so it has a nice symmetry that our challenge would be to cross something over from the Internets (a digital image, which coincidently is a very simple monochrome design in portrait format, perfectly suited to laser printing) to the real world.
Spearman has asked us to prove we're "willing" - and providing photographic evidence that we're prepared to get off our bottoms and carry out his instructions in the real world sounds to me like exactly what he wants.

Hi All,
O.k. I hit Croydon with some posters. http://www.flickr.com/photos/44210901@N08/ check them out if your interested.
Unfortunately only had the chance to do it in the evening. If I get time in daylight I will take some more but hopefully this will suffice.

You did loads!
I'm still wondering what's missing from the task though... Maybe nothing... What do I know, I mistook South America for Africa...

Re: Poster task - send your message to the world
Maybe some posters could be translated into various languages too, just to add to the international theme? The various 'countries' related to the posters deffo point to encouraging us to get the message out to the world and it might be nice to see it translated? Just a wee added bonus.
I hope we've done teh right thing. It was quite fun. We watched as people did double takes at the Banksys. But when we tried to take photos of them looking they ran off.
