Derren Brown: Paintings Exhibition (25/02-12/03/2011)
Derren will be exhibiting his new portraits, including Dame Judi Dench, Rufus Wainwright, Patrick Hughes and his parents, at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery, 28 Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia, London, W1T 2NA from 25 February to 12 March 2011. Certainly not to be missed: http://derrenbrown.co.uk/blog/2011/02/art-show/

Also, do check out my own opinions on the apparent 'metamorphosis' in Derren's painting and the parallels with his performance: http://mrdandyryan.wordpress.com/2011/02/06/a-new-hue-derren-brown-whatever-colour-you-want-it-to-be/-to-be/

Will be going to the exhibition in March. Not seen any of Derren's art work close up before, so really looking forward to seeing it.
Re: Derren Brown: Paintings Exhibition (25/02-12/03/2011)
I would love to see them if I can get the time off work. What does everybody think of Derren's new style of painting?

I love the new style of painting. The caricatures were phenomenal, but I feel the realistic portraiture Derren is embarking on really demonstrates his artistic ability to the full. Really looking forward to his new exhibition! x
Re: Derren Brown: Paintings Exhibition (25/02-12/03/2011)
I agree. I'd love to see him revisit his caricatures at some point though.

Yeah, it would be a real shame if he abandoned the caricatures completely. X
Re: Derren Brown: Paintings Exhibition (25/02-12/03/2011)
Derren has finally finished his family series of portraits in time for the exhibition starting on Thursday: http://derrenbrown.co.uk/blog/2011/02/paintings-exhibition/
He seemed to get a fair amount of criticism on Twitter for his self-portrait, but I think it reflects his feelings as much as his appearance. I just hope the poor man isn't feeling too run down!
Again, for those who'd like to read my opinions on the apparent 'metamorphosis' in Derren's painting style, visit my blog: http://ryanowengibson.wordpress.com/2011/02/06/a-new-hue-derren-brown-whatever-colour-you-want-it-to-be/

Went to the private view and I have to say I love his new style, always loved the caricatures but I prefer this new development.
Here's my preview for The Cultural Expose that should be Exposay but I'm not sure how to do the accent, if anyone knows please tell me! Ha ha. Thanks.

Love the review, thanks for that. And I think there should be a cedille above the e in expose, but you pronounced it correctly

Thanks
How do you type the cedille, do you know? I always have to copy and paste it but I'm getting tired of doing that!

Thanks!
It doesn't work on my lap top, I've used those codes before on an old desktop and it worked but not this clunky old laptop unfortunately.
Never mind, stick to cutting and pasting then...
Thanks for finding me the code though.

I love Macs dearly, but some of the keyboard choices are odd.

Hi Ryan, I was looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the changes in Derren's painting style when I saw that you'd closed your wordpress blog. If you have moved/renamed it, would you want to give the new address? Otherwise that's fine, I just thought I'd ask.

Re: Derren Brown: Paintings Exhibition (25/02-12/03/2011)
Ah great, thank you.
I do hope this is not what Derren is becoming, as much as I love positive psychology and personal development. I understand the new direction in Derren's work is largely of his own choosing (at least that's what I have read), but aren't purveyors of positive psychology and personal development a dime a dozen? Granted, Hero and Faith Healer are unique pieces that only Derren could get away with...
Derren has consistently shown an uncanny understanding of the dark side of the public's unconscious. Isn't that what makes his work compelling, occasionally disturbing and leaves us thinking about it long after the program is over? I suppose even Hero has its dark moments too (train tracks, crocodile, anyone?). For me personally, it was the 'is it psychology or is it magic' aspect of Trick of the Mind that drew me as a fan. I found that ambiguity irresistable, and it made me question what exactly the mind was capable of doing, a theme I haven't seen reflected in his recent work.
I'm hugely grateful that Derren has continued to be so fruitful during his career. I suppose I must just trust that he knows what he is doing.

I imagine (hope) that Derren will always have a certain level of darkness and mischief with his shows...
Re: Derren Brown: Paintings Exhibition (25/02-12/03/2011)
Went to see the exhibition today, very good, lots more of his artwork on show than I was expecting and they are a lot larger than I thought. So much detail up close too. Was an interesting small insight into his world too to see the picture he has done of his partner.
All in all well worth the visit
